Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you had to administer a medication or give an injection to a patient who was nervous or resistant.

hands-on clinical skill combined with patient communication under mild conflict

Describe a time you worked closely with a physician or nurse during a procedure. How did you know what they needed without being told?

anticipation and teamwork skills needed to function as a procedure assistant rather than just a task-doer

Tell me about a time you caught an error, like a wrong dose or mislabeled specimen, before it caused harm.

attention to detail and willingness to speak up, which matters in a medication- and procedure-heavy setting

Tell me about a time you had to lift, transfer, or reposition a patient who needed help moving. How did you make sure it was done safely?

physical capability and safe body mechanics awareness given the lifting and transfer requirements listed

What draws you to working specifically with chronic pain patients rather than a general primary care population?

genuine interest and emotional readiness for a patient population that can be demanding and slow to show improvement

Technical

Tell me about your experience assisting with interventional procedures, like injections or nerve blocks. What was your role in the room?

whether the candidate has real procedural room experience relevant to a pain clinic versus general office MA work

Walk me through how you'd room a patient before an interventional pain procedure, including vitals, history, and prepping them for the provider.

whether they know the specific workflow of a procedure-based clinic, not just standard exam room intake

What's your experience with specimen collection and point-of-care testing, like urine drug screens?

comfort with a routine but sensitive task specific to pain management, including chain of custody awareness

How do you document in the electronic health record during a busy clinic day without falling behind or cutting corners?

EHR proficiency and whether they understand documentation as a compliance and care-continuity issue, not just paperwork

How do you keep yourself and patients safe when you're exposed to blood, body fluids, or hazardous waste on a regular basis?

basic competency with universal precautions and PPE, required given the physical exposure risks listed

Situational

A patient tells you their pain medication isn't working and they seem frustrated and on edge. How do you handle that conversation before the provider comes in?

de-escalation skill and emotional composure with a population known for high frustration and sometimes drug-seeking tension

If a patient became physically agitated or tried to leave mid-visit, what would you do first?

knowledge of safety protocol, verbal de-escalation, and when to call for help versus physically intervene

This clinic runs Monday through Friday but the schedule can shift based on need. How do you handle last-minute changes to your day?

flexibility and reliability given the posting's note that hours can change
