depth of technical knowledge around institutional versus individual portfolio management, including spending policies and time horizons
What's your process for staying on top of market trends and economic conditions, and how does that translate into actual changes in client portfolios?
whether their research process leads to real decisions, not just commentary
How do you evaluate an external manager or fund before recommending it for inclusion in a client's portfolio?
rigor of due diligence process and ability to explain manager selection criteria
What role has the CFA curriculum, or your equivalent training, played in how you actually manage portfolios day to day?
whether technical credentials translate into practical judgment rather than just theory
Situational
Describe a situation where a client wanted to make an investment decision that conflicted with their stated risk tolerance or investment guidelines. What did you do?

understanding of compliance escalation and whether they'd self-report versus hide it
