Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through the last time you had a Tier 4 escalation on a mission-critical system where the root cause wasn't obvious. How did you approach it?

whether they have real experience diagnosing complex, high-stakes incidents versus following a script

Describe a time you had to explain a serious technical problem to a customer or executive who was not technical, while the pressure was on. What did you say and how did you decide what to leave out?

ability to communicate clearly under pressure to non-technical, high-stakes stakeholders like public safety agencies

Tell me about a time you had to write documentation, like a Method of Procedure, that someone else had to follow exactly, without you there to explain it.

clarity and precision in written technical communication, since MOPs are a stated deliverable

How have you worked with a product development team to validate a new feature or software upgrade before it went out to customers? What went wrong, if anything?

experience bridging support and engineering, and honesty about friction in that process

Tell me about a time you had to travel or show up on-site to cover a gap in staffing or handle something a remote team couldn't fix. What was the outcome?

willingness and track record with the onsite support and variable-shift demands described in the posting

Technical

Say a 911 call-taking system starts dropping calls intermittently during peak hours, and the issue spans the network layer, the telephony stack, and the database. How would you isolate where the problem is actually coming from?

structured troubleshooting method across layered systems, not just tool knowledge

Tell me about your hands-on experience with SS7, PBX systems like Asterisk, and geo-spatial routing. What's a specific issue you've had to fix in one of those areas?

depth versus surface familiarity with the specific telephony technologies this role requires

How would you troubleshoot a Windows Domain or Active Directory integration issue that's preventing dispatch consoles from authenticating properly?

practical infrastructure skills in the exact environment (Windows Server, AD) the job lists

Walk me through how you'd set up and maintain a lab environment to replicate a customer's specific configuration for testing a fix.

practical understanding of lab-based reproduction and validation work central to this role

What experience do you have with Cisco networking concepts or CCNA-level troubleshooting on a LAN/WAN, and can you give me a real example where that knowledge mattered?

whether networking knowledge is theoretical or has actually been applied to solve something

Situational

Imagine you're on-call at 2 a.m. and a dispatch center reports their system is down. What are the first three things you do?

triage instincts and calm decision-making during an actual emergency scenario, not hypothetical process

If a field technician keeps escalating tickets that should have been resolved at their level, how do you handle that over time?

mentorship approach and whether they build capability in others rather than just fixing things themselves

You're managing several open trouble tickets at once, and one customer, a 911 dispatch center, is pushing hard for status on a P1 issue while you're mid-diagnosis on something else critical. How do you handle the competing pressure?

prioritization and composure when public safety stakes and workload collide
