Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
Behavioral
Walk me through a hardware and software product you owned end to end, from the first market requirement through launch.
whether the candidate has actually run a full product lifecycle across HW and SW, not just one slice of it
Describe how you've used competitive intelligence to change the direction of a product, not just to fill in a slide.
whether market analysis actually drives decisions or is just reporting
Tell me about a time voice-of-customer feedback conflicted with what your sales team was telling you to build. How did you resolve it?
how the candidate weighs and reconciles competing input sources
What's your approach to managing a strategic partner or third-party supplier relationship when priorities start to diverge?
experience managing external dependencies that a company doesn't fully control
Tell me about a product launch that didn't go the way you expected. What did you learn and what would you do differently now?
honesty about failure and evidence of real learning, not just a polished success story
Technical
Tell me about a time you had to define KSPs or acceptance criteria for a device feature that had no clear precedent.
comfort translating ambiguous customer need into concrete, buildable specs
How do you structure a business case for a new device initiative, and what financial goals do you typically build in from the start?
fluency with the business and financial side of product management, not just the technical side
How do you decide which customer ideas get promoted into an actual feature on the roadmap versus which ones get set aside?
a repeatable, defensible prioritization framework versus ad hoc decision-making
How have you approached UI/UX decisions for a hardware device, and how involved do you get versus deferring to a design team?
clarity on where the product manager's authority starts and ends in cross-functional work
Situational
How do you build a product roadmap when engineering, sales, and finance each want something different, and only one of them can win in the next release?
ability to make and defend prioritization tradeoffs under real organizational pressure
Say a hardware supplier tells you three weeks before a milestone that a key component is delayed. What do you do in the next 48 hours?
crisis management and understanding of how HW dependencies ripple through a release schedule
How would you get a sales and channel team ready to sell a new device feature they've never seen before?
go-to-market execution skill and understanding of enablement, not just product definition
Describe a release where scope, schedule, and quality were all under pressure at once. What did you cut and why?
judgment under classic tradeoff constraints and willingness to make an unpopular call
