Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about the book of business you've owned. How large was it, and what were your GRR and NRR numbers by the end?

whether the candidate has real, quantified accountability for retention metrics versus just being present on a team that had them

Walk me through how you turned a reactive CSM team into one that acts as proactive, strategic advisors. What specifically did you change?

whether they've actually led this kind of team transformation or are describing an aspiration

Tell me about a time you built or overhauled a lifecycle playbook, for onboarding, QBRs, or renewals. What was broken before and what did you put in place?

hands-on experience building scalable process rather than inheriting one

Tell me about a renewal that was genuinely at risk with a large account. What did the rescue plan look like and who did you bring in?

comfort running executive-level save plans versus discounting to keep the logo

Tell me about a time you had to deliver a hard message to a C-level customer executive or a franchise owner. How did you prepare and how did it go?

executive presence and composure with senior external stakeholders, which this role leans on heavily

Tell me about a time you had to hire or replace someone on a CS team. What did you look for, and how did that person work out?

real people-management track record given the 3+ years direct management requirement

Technical

How would you design an early-warning health score for accounts using our kind of data, things like camera usage, POS integration activity, or support ticket volume?

whether they can translate usage and operational data into a predictive retention model, not just talk about the concept

How have you used a tool like Salesforce, Gainsight, or ChurnZero day to day, not just to report numbers but to actually run your team's operating rhythm?

real platform fluency versus resume keyword familiarity

What do you know about loss prevention or store operations in QSR, convenience, or retail settings, and how would that shape the way you coach your CSMs to talk to clients?

domain fluency in the specific vertical this product serves, since generic SaaS CS experience alone won't translate

How would you build a customer advocacy program from scratch, getting case studies and references out of accounts that are otherwise just quietly satisfied?

whether they have a concrete method for converting satisfaction into usable proof points, not just a belief that it matters

Situational

Say you inherit a portfolio and discover three of your top ten accounts are quietly at risk with no early warning flags. What do you do in the first two weeks?

how they build health scoring and triage under pressure rather than just reacting account by account

A CSM comes to you frustrated because Product keeps deprioritizing a feature that three of your biggest QSR clients have asked for. How do you handle it?

whether they can be an effective internal advocate without overpromising to the customer or burning bridges with Product

How do you personally distinguish an upsell conversation that helps the customer from one that's just chasing a number, and how do you coach that distinction into your team?

judgment around growth motions versus pure quota pressure, which affects long-term retention

We empower our clients' success by helping them drive valuable, tangible outcomes through our software—ultimately protecting their people, streamlining their operations, and securing their profits. Job Description As the Senior Manager of Customer Success, you will be the driving force behind Envysion’s post-sale customer journey. You will lead a high-performing team of Customer Success Managers (CSMs), designing and executing strategies that ensure our QSR, retail, and convenience store clients maximize the value of their cloud-based video and analytics platforms. You will own the overall customer relationship lifecycle, transforming everyday users into lifelong advocates while driving measurable business outcomes across four key pillars: Team Leadership & Strategy • Design, implement, and iterate on a comprehensive Customer Success strategy that aligns with Envysion’s broader business goals and customer health initiatives. • Hire, coach, and mentor a team of CSMs. Transform the team from reactive problem-solvers into proactive, trusted advisors who deeply understand loss prevention, store operations, and product ROI. • Build and refine scalable, data-led lifecycle playbooks (onboarding, adoption, QBRs, renewals) using tools like Salesforce, Gainsight, or Outreach to ensure consistent, white-glove service across the entire customer base. Retention & Growth • Take direct accountability for portfolio health and key financial metrics, specifically targeting Gross Retention Rate (GRR) and Net Retention Rate (NRR). • Develop early-warning systems and health scores to identify at-risk accounts. Lead the team in designing targeted intervention strategies and executive-level rescue plans to secure renewals. • Partner closely with Sales and Account Management to identify and execute on upsell and cross-sell opportunities, seamlessly integrating growth motions into the everyday customer journey. Customer Satisfaction & Advocacy • Establish and track core sentiment metrics, including Net Promoter Score (NPS) and Customer Satisfaction (CSAT). Create feedback loops to continuously improve the customer experience. • Build a robust customer advocacy engine. Nurture relationships with C-level executives and key stakeholders to develop strong brand ambassadors, generating case studies, testimonials, and industry references. • Serve as the executive sponsor for high-value strategic accounts, participating in critical Executive Business Reviews (EBRs) and acting as the final point of escalation for complex customer challenges. Cross-Functional Collaboration • Act as the internal champion for our clients. Synthesize user data, feedback, and feature requests to directly influence the Product and Engineering roadmaps. • Foster strong alignment between Sales, Marketing, Implementation, and Technical Support to ensure a frictionless customer experience from the moment a deal is closed through deployment and long-term adoption. Experience & Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of progressive experience in Customer Success, Account Management, or Management Consulting within a B2B SaaS environment. • 3+ years of direct people management experience. • Proven track record of owning and expanding a multi-million dollar book of business, with direct accountability for metrics like Gross Retention Rate (GRR), Net Retention Rate (NRR), and adoption targets. • Prior experience working with or within the Quick-Service Restaurant (QSR), retail, convenience store, or Loss Prevention/Asset Protection industries is highly desirable. Leadership & Execution Skills • Demonstrated ability to recruit, coach, and scale a high-performing team of Customer Success Managers. You know how to elevate a team from reactive support to proactive, strategic advisors. • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to build trust and negotiate confidently with C-level executives, franchisees, and business owners. • Strong ability to collaborate seamlessly with Sales, Product, and Technical Support teams to act as the "Voice of the Customer," ensuring client feedback actively shapes product roadmaps and company strategy. Strategic & Technical Aptitude • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data (such as point-of-sale data, audit metrics, and platform usage) to prove tangible ROI and drive actionable business outcomes for clients. • Advanced proficiency in CRM and Customer Success platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Gainsight, ChurnZero) to track team performance, forecast churn, and build scalable playbooks. • Ability to quickly understand and speak intelligently about Envysion's cloud-based video security hardware, software, and POS integration capabilities.
