Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through a time you had a safety incident or near-miss on your shift. What did you do in the moment, and what changed afterward?

whether the candidate treats safety as a real operational discipline, not a box to check

Tell me about a time you had to enforce a safety rule or LOTO procedure against pushback from an experienced operator. How did you handle it?

willingness to hold the line on safety even when it creates friction with the team

Tell me about a time you had to influence or negotiate with a union workforce to get something changed on the floor.

credibility and tact operating inside union rules and relationships

Tell me about a team member who was underperforming. How did you coach them, and what was the outcome?

real coaching skill versus just documenting problems for HR

Describe how you've handed off a shift to another supervisor when something was still unresolved. What made that handoff work or fail?

discipline around communication and continuity across shift changes

Tell me about someone you developed who was eventually ready to take on more responsibility or your role itself.

genuine investment in succession planning and building team capability rather than hoarding knowledge

Technical

What is your experience with autonomous maintenance and progressive maintenance systems, specifically at Step 4 AM and Step 3 PM level?

whether the candidate has actually operated within TPM structures versus just knowing the terminology

Describe a root-cause analysis you led on a recurring breakdown or stoppage. What method did you use and what was the actual fix, not just the workaround?

depth of RCA skill versus surface-level fixes that let the problem recur

How do you use ERP or MES systems and shift dashboards to track SQDCM performance, and what do you do when the data doesn't match what you're seeing on the floor?

comfort with data systems and judgment to trust the line over the dashboard when needed

What's an example of a loss you identified and eliminated on your line, and how did you quantify the improvement?

whether the candidate thinks in terms of measurable loss elimination, not just anecdotes of fixing things

Situational

You come onto shift and the line has just stopped with no clear cause. Walk me through what you do in the first ten minutes.

practical troubleshooting instinct and ability to lead under pressure without freezing or over-escalating

A quality non-conformance shows up mid-shift and stopping the line will cost you your production target for the day. What do you do?

whether quality actually wins over throughput when the two conflict

Two operators on your shift are in conflict and it's affecting the line's pace. What do you do right then, and what do you do after the shift ends?

ability to manage interpersonal friction without letting it disrupt production

You're asked to be flexible and cover a different shift than usual on short notice. How do you approach walking into a team and line you don't run day to day?

adaptability and how quickly the candidate can establish authority and read an unfamiliar line
