Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
Behavioral
Walk me through how you'd handle checking in a patient who's frustrated because they've been waiting past their appointment time.
whether the candidate can de-escalate calmly without becoming defensive or rushing the patient
Tell me about a time you dealt with a really difficult customer or patient. What happened and how did you get through it?

Tell me about a time you noticed missing or incorrect information in a patient's record or account. What did you do about it?
follow-through and ownership on accuracy of medical records
Give me an example of a time you had to keep confidential patient information private, even when it would have been easier to share it.
understanding of HIPAA and discretion with sensitive information
What does good customer service look like to you in a medical office, compared to say a retail or restaurant job?
whether the candidate understands the compassion and sensitivity needed with patients, not just transactional service skills
Tell me about a time you made a mistake at work that affected someone else. How did you handle telling them and fixing it?
honesty and accountability, since errors here can affect billing or patient care
Technical
How do you make sure billing information gets entered correctly and completely at the time of service, especially when you're busy?

Situational
A patient calls asking about a bill they don't understand, and you can tell they're getting upset. What do you do?
comfort with billing conversations and ability to keep a tense call productive
You've got three patients waiting at the front desk, a phone ringing, and a provider asking you to pull a chart. How do you decide what to handle first?
prioritization skills in a genuinely high-volume, multi-task environment
This role includes a late night until 6pm each week and a Saturday rotation. How do you feel about that kind of schedule, and how have you managed rotating or extended shifts before?
realistic fit with the schedule demands and reliability
You're working the front desk and it's clearly a sick season, with patients coughing and visibly unwell all around you. How do you keep doing your job well in that environment?
resilience and professionalism when exposed to illness and physically demanding conditions
