Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

You'd be the on-site authority for energy management on a data center project. Tell me about your experience leading LOTO and energization on a project like this.

What they are checking: Whether they have truly owned electrical safety programs in mission-critical construction, not just followed them.

Tell me about a time you found a problem with a LOTO procedure. What happened?

What they are checking: Whether they catch flaws before work starts and fix them, which is the heart of this role.

What would you do

A trade partner wants to work on gear you're not sure is fully isolated, and they're behind schedule. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they will stop work until isolation is proven, even under heavy schedule pressure.

How do you train workers so they understand and respect the energy management program?

What they are checking: Whether they can build a culture where workers follow LOTO because they understand it, not just because they must.

Your switching procedure doesn't match what you see in the field. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they stop and reconcile drawings with reality before proceeding, which prevents serious incidents.

About the work

Walk me through how you review a Method of Procedure or Step-by-Step switching procedure before you approve it.

What they are checking: Whether they check sequence, isolation points and verification steps, since one error can injure or kill someone.

How do you manage Change of Energy permits when different parts of the building are being energized at different times?

What they are checking: Whether they can control energy states across a site where energized and dead equipment sit side by side.

How do you coordinate energization with the utility, commissioning team and electrical contractor so everyone knows what's live?

What they are checking: Whether they communicate energy status clearly to all parties, which prevents surprise energized equipment.

What are the main hazards when testing generators, UPS systems and ATS equipment during commissioning?

What they are checking: Whether they understand backfeed, stored energy and arc flash risks specific to data center power systems.

What NFPA 70E and OSHA requirements guide your daily work?

What they are checking: Whether they know the electrical safety rules that set the standard for this kind of work.

How do you keep records of energy states and permits so they hold up if something goes wrong?

What they are checking: Whether they document everything clearly, since records protect workers and the project during investigations.
