Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about an automation or integration you built that reduced work for a security team.

What they are checking: Whether they have shipped real tooling that made defenders faster at scale.

Tell me about a time you were the subject matter expert others relied on. How did you share what you knew?

What they are checking: Whether they lift the team's knowledge instead of becoming a bottleneck.

How do you keep up with new adversary techniques?

What they are checking: Whether they have a steady learning habit, which this fast-changing role requires.

What would you do

You want to deploy a countermeasure across classified networks, but operations worries it might break something. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they test carefully and work with operations rather than forcing changes onto mission systems.

An adversary changes tactics and your detection stops firing. How would you even know?

What they are checking: Whether they think about detection health monitoring and adversary adaptation.

About the work

Walk me through how you would design a custom countermeasure for a new APT technique you just read about.

What they are checking: Whether they can turn threat intelligence into a working detection or response that fits the environment.

What does Detection-as-Code mean to you, and how have you put it into practice?

What they are checking: Whether they use version control, testing and review for detections like real software.

How do you measure whether a countermeasure is actually working against an adversary?

What they are checking: Whether they test effectiveness and track results rather than assuming deployed means effective.

How would you build a malware detection that catches variants without flooding analysts with false positives?

What they are checking: Whether they balance coverage and precision when writing detections.

What languages and tools do you use for security automation, and why?

What they are checking: Whether they have practical scripting and pipeline skills, such as Python and DevSecOps tools.

How do you design a data correlation pipeline that scales across a very large enterprise?

What they are checking: Whether they think about volume, latency and reliability when processing security data at DoD scale.
