Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you led a release that involved both developers and network engineers.

What they are checking: Whether they can bridge software and network teams, which this lead role requires.

Tell me about a time you mentored someone moving from networking into software development.

What they are checking: Whether they can grow others on a team that blends two disciplines.

What would you do

An automation push misconfigures a set of routers in production. What do you do first?

What they are checking: Whether they act fast to roll back and contain impact, then find the cause.

Network engineers do not trust the automation and keep making manual changes. How do you handle that?

What they are checking: Whether they build trust through reliability and involvement instead of forcing adoption.

About the work

Walk me through how you would build and release a new service package in Cisco NSO.

What they are checking: Whether they understand NSO service models, templates and the release path from development to production.

How do YANG models, XML templates and Python fit together in an NSO service?

What they are checking: Whether they have real hands-on depth with the NSO platform the posting centers on.

How would you test an NSO package before it touches ASR9K or Juniper MX routers on a carrier-class WAN?

What they are checking: Whether they use netsim, labs and dry runs to avoid outages caused by automation.

How do you handle device differences between Cisco and Juniper platforms in one automation framework?

What they are checking: Whether they design abstractions that work across vendors without hiding important differences.

Explain how BGP route policy would affect customer traffic in an ISP-level network.

What they are checking: Whether they still have strong routing fundamentals alongside their coding skills.

How do you document software so the next engineer can maintain it?

What they are checking: Whether they write documentation that keeps tools supportable over a long contract.
