About your past

This is weekend coverage with long Saturday and Sunday shifts plus on-call. What makes that schedule work for you?

What they are checking: Whether they can reliably cover 12-hour weekend shifts, since a no-show leaves a residential unit short.

Tell me about a time you cared for a patient who was difficult or rude to you.

What they are checking: Whether they can stay respectful and nonjudgmental with people in recovery who may be struggling hard.

What would you do

A client gets loud and threatens to leave treatment in the middle of a Saturday shift. What do you do?

What they are checking: De-escalation skills and respect for client choice while keeping staff and other residents safe.

You notice a client seems to be under the influence after returning from a weekend pass. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Following safety and program procedures calmly and documenting accurately without becoming punitive.

What keeps you steady when you are one of only a few staff on a weekend and several things happen at once?

What they are checking: Prioritizing safety and medical needs first and knowing when and how to reach on-call support.

About the work

Tell me about your experience taking vital signs and how you know when a reading needs to be reported right away.

What they are checking: Clinical support skills from CNA or MA work and judgment about which numbers need a nurse or provider now.

What do you know about withdrawal symptoms, and what would make you call for medical help for a client in residential substance use treatment?

What they are checking: Recognizing warning signs of dangerous withdrawal in a setting where staff may be thin on weekends.

How do you handle medication administration or observation so that nothing is missed or doubled?

What they are checking: Careful, by-the-book medication habits and documentation, where one error can seriously harm a client.

How do you think about the word 'addict,' and how do you talk with clients about their substance use?

What they are checking: Whether their language and attitude reduce stigma, which affects how clients engage with treatment.

Describe how you write up an incident or shift note so the next shift knows exactly what happened.

What they are checking: Clear, factual documentation that keeps care continuous across shifts in a 24-hour program.
