Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about an electronics product you designed that users wore or carried. What did you learn?

What they are checking: Whether they have designed electronics people wear or carry, where comfort, durability and battery life shape every engineering choice.

Tell me about a time you balanced cost, size and features in a design.

What they are checking: Whether they make sensible tradeoffs between cost, size and features, and can explain why the final balance serves the user.

What would you do

A prototype works on the bench but fails in user trials. How do you respond?

What they are checking: Learning from real use and adjusting design rather than blaming users.

How do you work with mechanical and industrial designers when the space for electronics is very small?

What they are checking: Whether they negotiate space and layout well with other designers, because compact products only work when every discipline gives a little.

About the work

Electronics in PPE are worn on the body. How does that change the way you design them?

What they are checking: Awareness of comfort, safety, heat and durability when electronics are worn by users.

What safety and certification concerns come up when adding electronics to personal protective equipment?

What they are checking: Understanding that electronics must not compromise the PPE's core protective function.

How would you design a low-power system that runs all shift on a small battery?

What they are checking: Whether they can budget power carefully across a full shift, since a wearable that dies early is useless and frustrating on site.

How do you make electronics survive sweat, rain, dust and impacts?

What they are checking: Designing for harsh environments with sealing, protection and robust parts.

How would you test that a heated or powered PPE product stays within safe temperature limits?

What they are checking: Making sure electronics never create a burn or other hazard for the wearer.

How would you design charging for a wearable product used on jobsites?

What they are checking: Practical charging design that works for real user habits and conditions.

What is your process for bringing up and debugging a new board?

What they are checking: Whether they have a careful, methodical way to bring up new hardware without damaging boards or missing the real root cause.
