Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you explained a technical limitation to business users who wanted something different.

What they are checking: Whether they can partner with the business and offer alternatives instead of just saying no.

Tell me about a time you mentored another developer or set technical standards for a team.

What they are checking: Whether they act as the technical expert the role describes and lift others.

What would you do

A critical interface between ECC and CRM fails overnight and orders stop flowing. Walk me through your response.

What they are checking: Whether they can triage production issues fast, restore service and then find root cause.

ECC 6.0 support has a limited future. How would you think about building on it now?

What they are checking: Whether they design with migration in mind instead of piling on custom code that will be hard to move.

About the work

Tell me about an integration you built with SAP PI/PO. What were the hardest parts?

What they are checking: Whether they have hands-on middleware experience with mapping, error handling and monitoring.

How does SAP Project Systems integrate with FI/CO, especially for WBS settlement?

What they are checking: Whether they understand how project costs flow into financial and controlling modules.

When would you use a BAPI, an RFC, an OData service or a REST API for an integration?

What they are checking: Whether they choose integration methods based on the use case instead of habit.

How do you write ABAP enhancements that won't break during an upgrade or support pack?

What they are checking: Whether they use enhancement frameworks properly instead of modifying standard code.

How do you approach performance tuning for a slow custom report in ECC?

What they are checking: Whether they use tools like SQL traces and know common causes such as poor selects and nested loops.

How do you keep integrations secure, especially ones exposed to outside systems?

What they are checking: Whether they think about authentication, authorization and data protection in integration design.

How do you document interfaces so someone else can support them at 2 a.m.?

What they are checking: Whether they think about supportability, which matters as much as clever code.
