Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a tentpole moment, like Prime Day or a holiday push, that you planned and ran. What did you change mid-flight?

What they are checking: Whether they have managed live retail events where bids, inventory and budgets shift by the hour.

Tell me about a time you negotiated added value from a retailer media team. What did you ask for and what did you give?

What they are checking: Whether they can use the agency's spend as leverage with retailers while keeping the relationship healthy for next year.

Tell me about a time you developed someone junior on a retail media team. What did they learn from you?

What they are checking: Whether they invest in building talent, which the posting names as part of the job, not just doing the work themselves.

What would you do

A client says Amazon ROAS looks great but total sales did not move. How do you answer that?

What they are checking: Whether they can talk about incrementality and halo honestly instead of hiding behind last-touch platform metrics.

One of your products goes out of stock at Target in the middle of a campaign. What do you do that day?

What they are checking: Whether they link media spend to shelf and inventory reality so the client does not pay to advertise empty shelves.

The client's brand team and their sales team want different things from the same retail media budget. How do you handle that?

What they are checking: Whether they can align competing client stakeholders around one plan without picking a side that later blames the agency.

About the work

Walk me through how you would build an annual retail media plan for a CPG brand across Walmart Connect, Amazon Ads, Roundel, Kroger Precision Marketing and Instacart.

What they are checking: Whether they can split one budget across networks based on each retailer's audience, data and role in the brand's sales.

How do you decide how much of a retail media budget goes to Search versus Display on a given network?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that sponsored search captures demand while display builds it, and can defend the mix with numbers.

How do you turn a client's business goal, like growing household penetration, into a retail media investment recommendation?

What they are checking: Whether they connect media tactics to what the brand actually needs rather than just maximizing platform efficiency metrics.

What emerging retail media network have you tested, and how did you judge whether it deserved more money?

What they are checking: Whether they can run a fair test on a newer network with set success criteria before scaling spend.

How do you report retail media performance to a senior client who does not want to read platform dashboards?

What they are checking: Whether they can boil many network reports into a short story about business results and next steps.
