Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Walk me through a forecast you built that executives used to make a decision. What was the decision?

What they are checking: Whether their FP&A work actually changed decisions instead of just filling a report.

Tell me about a time you challenged a business leader's assumptions with data.

What they are checking: Whether they act as a real strategic advisor who will push back, not just a number cruncher.

Tell me about a mistake you found in your own analysis after it went out. How did you handle it?

What they are checking: Honesty and ownership when errors happen, which matters more than never making one.

What would you do

Actuals came in well below forecast this month. How do you explain the variance to leadership?

What they are checking: Whether they dig into root causes and explain them plainly instead of listing line items.

You are asked for a quick number by the CFO in an hour, but the data is messy. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they can give a useful answer fast while being clear about its limits.

How do you explain a complex financial result to someone outside finance?

What they are checking: Whether they can translate finance into plain business language for operating teams.

About the work

Our business includes restaurant funding and marketing services. What drivers would you put in a model for revenue?

What they are checking: Whether they can think about the real business drivers behind the numbers, not only last year plus growth.

How do you build a model so someone else can pick it up and understand it?

What they are checking: Discipline in structure, labeling and checks so models are trusted and reusable.

How would you evaluate whether a new partner program is worth the investment?

What they are checking: Comfort with unit economics, payback and scenario analysis for long-term value decisions.

What Excel or BI tools do you rely on, and what is a shortcut or technique that saves you real time?

What they are checking: Hands-on fluency with the tools that make an analyst fast and accurate.
