Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you onboarded an application into SailPoint from discovery all the way to production. What went wrong and how did you handle it?

end-to-end ownership of the onboarding lifecycle and how they handle real-world friction, not just the happy path

Describe a time an integration with a source system, maybe AD, Entra ID, Okta, or a database, broke aggregation or correlation. How did you troubleshoot it?

real debugging experience across the connector types this role will actually use

Describe a situation where you had to drive a defect or risk to closure across multiple teams who weren't reporting to you.

influence and follow-through without direct authority, since this role has no direct reports but needs cross-team accountability

Technical

Walk me through how you'd configure an identity profile and lifecycle states in SailPoint ISC for a new source, from aggregation through provisioning.

whether the candidate has real hands-on ISC configuration depth versus surface-level familiarity

How do you approach designing joiner, mover, leaver, and rehire processes for contractors versus employees, especially with something like NERM in the mix?

depth on nonemployee governance and whether they understand the nuances that differentiate contractor lifecycle from FTE lifecycle

What's your process for writing and testing a transform or workflow in ISC, and how do you make sure it doesn't break existing provisioning when you push it?

discipline around change management and testing rigor, since this person has no team backstopping mistakes

Tell me about a REST API or SCIM integration you built that wasn't a native connector. What made it tricky?

comfort building custom integrations beyond out-of-the-box connectors, a stated requirement

Have you ever done an IIQ-to-ISC migration, or something similarly disruptive? What surprised you during the transition?

whether they have migration-specific scars that matter for a preferred but relevant qualification

What data-quality issue have you run into with provisioning or correlation, and how did you trace it back to its source?

whether they can diagnose messy identity data problems rather than just configuring clean systems

Situational

Say a certification campaign comes back showing a toxic combination that was missed by your SoD rules. How do you investigate and fix it so it doesn't happen again?

practical grasp of SoD rule design, conflict matrices, and root-cause remediation versus one-off patching

If a business stakeholder insists on an access model that conflicts with segregation of duties policy, what do you do?

how they balance business pressure against governance and whether they escalate appropriately instead of just complying

How would you explain a certification campaign result, including exceptions and mitigating controls, to an auditor who doesn't know SailPoint?

ability to translate technical governance work into language auditors and compliance teams understand

If you inherited a runbook that was outdated and causing confusion during an incident, what would you do in the moment and afterward?

attitude toward documentation and operational maturity, which the posting explicitly calls out as a responsibility
