What they are checking: Whether they can be honest about poor odds while staying compassionate with people in deep distress.

This is an academic department. What would you want to teach, study or build here?

A patient asks for an add-on treatment she read about online that has weak evidence. What do you say?

What they are checking: Whether they can decline unproven add-ons tactfully and explain the evidence in plain terms.

How do you work with the health psychologist when a patient is struggling emotionally through treatment?

What they are checking: Whether they see mental health support as part of fertility care rather than an optional extra.

About the work

Walk me through how you counsel a patient on whether to do preimplantation genetic testing.

What they are checking: Whether they can present the real benefits, limits and costs of PGT honestly without pushing a choice.

A couple has had three failed IVF transfers with good-quality embryos. How do you think about the next step?

What they are checking: Whether they have a structured, evidence-based approach to recurrent implantation failure.

Tell me about your experience with third-party reproduction, such as egg donation or gestational carriers. What are the hardest parts to manage?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the legal, psychological and screening steps that make third-party cases different.

What kinds of laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery do you do, and when do you choose surgery before IVF?

What they are checking: Whether their surgical skills fit the program and they use surgery when it truly improves outcomes.

How do you keep an IVF lab and clinic safe from errors like a mixed-up embryo or specimen?

What they are checking: Whether they take identity checks and quality systems seriously, since a single error is catastrophic.
