Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time a radiograph came out and you weren't satisfied with the quality. What did you do next?

self-review standards and whether they'll repeat a study rather than send along a marginal image

Tell me about a patient who was anxious or in pain during a urology or GI procedure. How did you get them through it?

bedside manner and communication skill in procedures that are physically uncomfortable for patients

Tell me about a time you had to move or reposition a patient who couldn't assist, and how you made sure it was done safely for both of you.

judgment around the lifting requirements and willingness to use patient handling equipment and ask for help

How do you keep yourself current on technique and equipment changes, given that you're expected to attend in-services and keep learning on the job?

genuine investment in ongoing competency versus doing the minimum for recertification

Technical

Walk me through how you'd position and set exposure factors for a portable chest x-ray on a patient who can't sit up or hold still.

whether the candidate has real hands-on portable and general radiography skills, not just textbook knowledge

Tell me about your experience with C-arm and O-arm procedures. What kinds of cases have you supported and what was your role in the room.

actual proficiency level against the required one year of C-arm/O-arm experience versus exposure only

How do you apply ALARA in your day to day work, especially during fluoroscopy or GI procedures where exposure time can add up?

whether radiation safety is a habit, not just a phrase they know to say

How do you confirm you have the right patient, right order, and right exam before you ever pick up the equipment?

discipline around patient identification protocols, a named responsibility in the posting

What's your comfort level with RIS and PACS systems, and have you ever run into a case where the system and the actual order didn't match up?

practical fluency with the documentation systems named in the job and problem-solving when data is inconsistent

Situational

You're called in during your on-call window and told to arrive within the hour. What does that actually look like for you, getting from home to bedside ready to work?

realistic understanding of the call commitment and whether their logistics actually support it

Describe a shift where patient volume suddenly spiked and you had to reprioritize who got imaged first.

triage judgment and composure under the stress the posting explicitly calls out

This role splits time between the hospital site and the Crystal Lake location with different shift times at each. How do you personally handle working across two locations with different rhythms?

adaptability to the specific scheduling structure of this posting, not a generic flexibility question

Describe a time you noticed an equipment problem mid-shift. Who did you tell and what did you do while it got resolved.

whether they follow reporting protocol instead of working around a malfunction quietly
