Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you found a part out of spec. How did you document it and who did you tell?

What they are checking: Whether they follow through on a nonconformance with paperwork and communication rather than just setting the part aside.

Tell me about a time an operator pushed back when you flagged their parts. How did you keep the working relationship good?

What they are checking: Whether they can hold a quality line while staying respected by production people they see every shift.

Tell me about a safety rule you followed even when it slowed you down.

What they are checking: Whether safety is a habit for them or something they drop when the shift gets busy.

What would you do

During a daily packaging audit you find the wrong UPC on a pallet that is about to ship. Second shift has no supervisor nearby. What do you do?

What they are checking: Judgment to stop bad product from shipping and escalate correctly when no one is standing over them.

How do you inspect incoming raw material when the supplier's cert says it is fine but something looks off?

What they are checking: Whether they verify supplier claims with their own measurements instead of rubber-stamping paperwork.

You are halfway through a dimensional inspection and three people interrupt you with urgent requests. How do you handle that?

What they are checking: Managing interruptions without losing track of measurements, which the posting names as a required skill.

About the work

You measure a part with calipers and get one reading, then check it with a micrometer and get a different one. What do you do next?

What they are checking: Whether they understand gauge resolution and know which tool to trust before passing or failing a part.

Walk me through how you would set up a part on the CMM or vision system and confirm the program is actually checking what the blueprint calls for.

What they are checking: Whether they verify the machine against the print instead of trusting a program blindly.

Convert three-eighths of an inch to a decimal, and then tell me roughly what that is in millimeters.

What they are checking: Basic shop floor math done quickly and accurately, since the posting lists it as a daily need.

What goes into a good nonconforming material report, and why does the Oracle transaction matter after you write it?

What they are checking: Whether they see that the NCMR and the ERP move bad material out of inventory, not just record a problem.

How do you find the current revision of a blueprint or inspection report, and how do you make sure you are not using an old one?

What they are checking: Document control discipline, because inspecting to an outdated print produces confident wrong answers.

What does a hardness test or paint thickness reading tell you that a dimensional check does not?

What they are checking: Whether they understand why different checks exist and what failure each one catches.
