Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you had to explain a technical system to someone who had zero technical background, like a chief or a city official.

ability to translate complex ideas for non-technical, high-stakes audiences

Tell me about a time a customer gave you critical feedback about a product or evaluation experience. What did you do with it?

whether they close the loop and route feedback to product or sales teams instead of letting it disappear

Describe a piece of training material or documentation you built for a customer or teammate. What made you decide to build it that way?

ability to create clear, usable collateral rather than just verbal explanations

Tell me about a time you had to learn a new technology quickly because a customer or project needed it right away.

self-directed learning habits and genuine enthusiasm for staying current on technology

What's your experience working alongside project managers and sales teams on the same account, and where have those relationships gotten tense?

collaboration style and whether they understand their role as support to sales rather than a solo operator

Technical

Walk me through how you'd deploy networking equipment on a police department's network to set up a mobile video or LPR evaluation, from the first call to the system going live.

whether the candidate actually understands IP networking architecture and can execute a field deployment, not just talk about it

What do you know about license plate readers, digital evidence management, or in-car and body camera systems, and where have you gotten hands-on with anything like them?

actual familiarity with the specific product ecosystem versus general public safety knowledge

How would you evaluate our current evaluation deployment process and figure out where it's slow or unclear for customers?

process thinking and whether they can improve a program, not just execute it as handed to them

If a customer's IT department pushes back on security concerns about connecting your evaluation equipment to their network, what do you say to them?

depth of knowledge on network security protocols and ability to handle a skeptical technical gatekeeper

Situational

Say you're on-site and the customer's evaluation system suddenly stops communicating with the network. How do you troubleshoot it in front of the customer without losing their confidence?

practical troubleshooting skill under pressure combined with composure in front of a client

You've got a demo scheduled with both a police chief and the officers who'll actually use the equipment day to day. How do you structure that presentation so it lands with both groups?

skill at tailoring the same technical content to very different stakeholders in one sitting

This role is up to fifty percent travel, often to different agencies with different networks and different levels of technical sophistication. How do you keep yourself organized and prepared for that?

self-management and ability to operate independently in the field with minimal oversight

A sales rep brings you into a deal late and the customer already has strong opinions, some of them wrong, about what the system can do. How do you handle that conversation?

diplomacy and technical credibility when correcting a customer without alienating the sales relationship
