Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you had to define requirements for a hardware and software product at the same time, where the two teams had conflicting priorities. How did you resolve it?

experience managing the hardware/software interdependency that is central to RF site products, and skill at cross-team negotiation

Describe a product launch you owned from definition through go-to-market. What went wrong, and what would you do differently?

end-to-end ownership experience and honest self-assessment rather than a highlight reel

Tell me about a time you had to say no to a sales or field team's request for a custom feature. How did you explain that decision and how did they react?

backbone and communication skill when pushing back on internal stakeholders who have direct customer relationships

Tell me about a time you had to influence an engineering team or executive to change direction on a product decision when you had no formal authority over them.

leadership through influence, which the posting calls out explicitly as a core skill

What's your experience with the North American public safety or federal market, and how does selling or supporting products in that space differ from commercial markets you've worked in?

whether claimed public safety market experience is real and whether they understand its unique compliance and reliability demands

Technical

Walk me through how you'd build the roadmap for a P25 RF Site product line for the next two years. What inputs would you use and how would you decide what makes the cut?

whether the candidate has a structured process for prioritization versus just reacting to the loudest customer or sales request

What do you know about P25 trunked versus conventional systems, and how would that difference change your approach to defining an RF site feature?

actual depth of domain knowledge in P25 systems versus surface familiarity picked up from a resume

How would you go about validating a market problem for an RF site feature before committing engineering resources to it?

rigor around voice-of-customer research versus assuming they already know the answer

How have you used financial data or modeling, in Excel or otherwise, to make a case for or against a product investment?

whether the candidate can actually build and defend a business case, not just talk about strategy in the abstract

How do you decide when a customer-requested feature should become part of the standard product versus staying a custom, one-off request?

understanding of scalable product thinking versus building a product that becomes a pile of one-off customizations

Situational

A public safety customer tells you their base stations need a feature that isn't on your roadmap and they're threatening to look at a competitor. Walk me through what you do in the next two weeks.

how the candidate balances customer pressure against roadmap discipline and whether they escalate or negotiate appropriately

If a base station comparator component is causing repeated field issues but replacing it would delay your next release by two quarters, how do you decide what to do?

tradeoff judgment between quality risk, schedule commitments, and customer trust in a safety-critical product

How do you translate a complex requirement from a federal or public safety customer into something a developer can act on and something a non-technical exec can understand in the same meeting?

ability to move fluidly between technical and business audiences, a recurring demand of the role
