About your past

Tell me about a construction category strategy you built or ran. What spend did it cover, and what changed because of it?

What they are checking: Whether they have owned a construction or capex category strategy, not just bought services job by job.

Tell me about a time a construction supplier relationship went bad. What did you do?

What they are checking: How they manage performance problems with contractors through data and accountability, not just escalation.

What would you do

You're the bridge between Plant, Engineering, Enterprise Capital, Real Estate and the general contractors. How do you keep all of them aligned?

A general contractor submits a change order that's 15 percent over budget mid-project. How do you respond?

Engineering wants to sole-source a contractor they like, but you think the work should be bid. How do you handle that conversation?

About the work

How do you choose between lump sum, GMP and time-and-materials contracts for a plant construction project?

What does value engineering look like in practice on a manufacturing construction project?

What they are checking: Whether they can find real cost savings without cutting the quality or safety the plant depends on.

How do you assess and qualify a general contractor before awarding work at an operating plant?

What they are checking: Whether they weigh safety records, capacity and plant experience, since an operating site carries unique risks.

How do you factor sustainability into construction sourcing decisions?

What they are checking: Whether they can connect sustainable building choices to real cost and operating benefits the business will accept.

How do you track and report on construction spend across many projects in North America?

What they are checking: Whether they can see spend patterns across sites and turn them into leverage with contractors.
