Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

You are the first person our patients see. How do you make someone feel welcome when they may be nervous about their first psychiatry visit?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that patients seeking mental health care may feel anxious or ashamed and need a gentle start.

Tell me about a time you kept an office or a busy shift running smoothly when things got hectic.

What they are checking: Real evidence of time management and staying organized, which the posting leans on heavily.

Tell me about a time a coworker or provider asked you for something in a way that felt rude. How did you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they can stay professional with stressed coworkers in a small office where everyone depends on each other.

Our mission is to make mental health care more accessible, affordable and effective. What does that mean to you in the day-to-day work of this job?

What they are checking: Whether they connect their own front-desk work to the mission instead of seeing it as a generic office job.

What would you do

A patient comes to the front desk upset because their appointment was moved and nobody told them. Walk me through what you say and do.

What they are checking: Calming a frustrated patient in a mental health setting while owning the problem instead of passing blame.

The phone is ringing, two patients are checking in, and a provider needs a room turned over. What do you do first?

What they are checking: How they set priorities under pressure in a busy office where every task feels urgent.

A patient on the phone says they are feeling unsafe and are not sure they can wait for their appointment. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they know to stay calm, keep the person on the line and get a provider or crisis help right away.

About the work

What do you know about patient privacy rules like HIPAA, and how would you protect it at a front desk where other patients can hear?

What they are checking: Whether they handle sensitive mental health information carefully in small everyday moments at the desk.

This role supports both the front office and the clinical side. What clinical tasks have you helped with before, like vitals or getting rooms ready?

What they are checking: How much clinical support experience they bring and how quickly they could cover both sides of the role.

How comfortable are you with scheduling software, insurance checks and collecting copays? Tell me about a system you have used.

What they are checking: Their comfort with the admin tools that keep a practice paid and on schedule.
