Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through a time you had to interpret an ambiguous clause in a contract that two internal teams disagreed about. How did you settle it?

whether the candidate can do neutral, evidence-based contract interpretation rather than just siding with whoever asked loudest

Tell me about the most complicated change order dispute you've managed post-award. What was at stake and how did it get resolved?

depth of hands-on change order management experience, not just familiarity with the concept

Tell me about a time you had to deliver a contract interpretation that a business stakeholder didn't want to hear. How did you handle that conversation?

ability to be a trusted advisor who tells uncomfortable truths persuasively, not just agreeably

Tell me about a presentation you gave to leadership summarizing contract risk or a dispute recommendation. How did you decide what to include?

PowerPoint and communication skills aimed at executive audiences, not just technical peers

Technical

What's your experience with LMR, SaaS, or HaaS contracts specifically, and how does managing those differ from a standard hardware sale contract post-award?

whether their technical contracting background actually matches the specific product lines this role touches

Describe how you've used an electronic contract management system to track and process change orders. What did that workflow look like day to day?

real familiarity with CLM-type tools versus generic claims of 'proficiency'

How do you build a negotiation strategy when you're trying to resolve a dispute over changed terms and conditions rather than negotiating a brand-new deal?

understanding of post-award negotiation dynamics, which differ from front-end deal negotiation

What kinds of compliance issues or regulations have come up in your past contract reviews, and how did you make sure the resolution stayed compliant?

whether they factor legal and regulatory exposure into contract decisions, not just commercial outcomes

Give me an example of a spreadsheet or model you built in Excel to track contract obligations, risk, or change orders across a large portfolio.

the advanced Excel proficiency the posting specifically calls out, beyond basic spreadsheet use

Situational

Say a customer disputes a change order on a SaaS renewal, claiming the original SOW already covered the new work. How do you approach figuring out who's right and what you'd recommend to the business?

practical dispute resolution process: reading the SOW, gathering facts, framing a recommendation to stakeholders

You've got three contract disputes hitting deadlines the same week, plus a stakeholder who needs an answer today. How do you decide what gets your attention first?

prioritization under competing deadlines, a named requirement in the posting

How have you worked with engineers or technical delivery teams to understand whether a change actually falls inside or outside the original scope of work?

ability to collaborate across a highly technical environment and translate technical facts into contractual conclusions

What's your approach when internal stakeholders push back on your contract interpretation and go around you to someone else for a different answer?

how they protect their credibility and authority as the trusted advisor when their judgment is challenged internally
