Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you caught an error before it reached a patient.

What they are checking: Attention to detail in practice and whether their instinct is to stop and verify rather than assume.

Tell me about a time you disagreed with how a pharmacist wanted something done.

What they are checking: Working under pharmacist direction while still speaking up respectfully when something looks unsafe.

What would you do

The medication refrigerator reads out of range during your morning check. What do you do?

What they are checking: Knowing to act, notify the pharmacist and protect drug stability rather than just logging the number.

You notice a label you printed has the wrong strength after the dose has gone to the floor. What happens next?

What they are checking: Owning errors immediately, since speed in reporting can prevent a wrong dose from reaching a patient.

How do you handle unit dose packaging when you are also getting interrupted by calls from nursing units?

What they are checking: Staying accurate under interruptions, which are a leading cause of dispensing mistakes.

You will rotate across three shift start times and one weekend a month. How does that fit your life?

What they are checking: Honest commitment to the posted schedule, since a small hospital pharmacy depends on everyone covering their rotation.

About the work

Walk me through how you prepare an IV admixture while keeping sterile technique the whole time.

What they are checking: Whether they know aseptic steps like hand hygiene, hood cleaning and first air, since a lapse can harm a patient.

A pharmacist asks you to prepare a dose that requires a dilution calculation. Talk me through how you check your math.

What they are checking: Pharmacy math accuracy and the habit of double-checking, because a decimal error here can be fatal.

How do you keep narcotic records accurate, and what do you do if a count does not match?

What they are checking: Respect for controlled substance rules and willingness to report discrepancies right away instead of fixing them quietly.

Tell me about your experience filling and restocking Omnicell or other automated dispensing cabinets.

What they are checking: Familiarity with the hospital's distribution system and the care it takes to put the right drug in the right pocket.

How do you set up and exchange anesthesia drug trays so the OR has what it needs?

What they are checking: Understanding that tray accuracy and expiration checks matter because anesthesia staff draw from them under time pressure.
