Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you turned a pile of data into a clear story for someone who was not an analyst.

What they are checking: Whether they can do the storytelling half of this role, since leasing teams act on narratives, not tables.

Tell me about a time you had several urgent requests at once. How did you decide what came first?

What they are checking: Whether they can prioritize leasing deadlines calmly while keeping quality high on each deliverable.

What would you do

A leasing team wants to pitch a national apparel brand on one of our centers. What data would you pull together for that pitch?

What they are checking: Whether they know what a retailer cares about, like trade area demographics, traffic and co-tenancy, when choosing a location.

Two of our established data sources give you different visitor counts for the same property. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they investigate and explain differences so their outputs stay defensible across the organization.

A leasing director asks you to make the numbers look stronger for a pitch. How do you respond?

What they are checking: Whether they keep research honest under pressure, since trusted research is the stated measure of success.

How would you tailor the same market analysis for a restaurant group versus a fitness tenant?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that different retailers judge locations on different factors and adjust the story to match.

About the work

How would you define the trade area for a regional mall, and what can throw that definition off?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the foundation of retail market analysis and its limits before they build on it.

How would you help decide which merchandising categories a center is missing?

What they are checking: Whether they can connect market data to a merchandising strategy that leasing can actually act on.

How do you make sure the materials you produce look and read the same no matter who on the team made them?

What they are checking: Whether they care about consistent templates and definitions, which keeps research trusted across many properties.

What tools have you used for data analysis and visualization, and what would you want to get better at?

What they are checking: Whether their skills match the work of summarizing established data sources and whether they know their own gaps.
