Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a network task you automated with scripting. What did it replace, and how much time did it save?

What they are checking: Whether they actually automate their own work, which the role treats as central to raising operations maturity.

Tell me about the worst outage you were part of. What did you learn from it?

What they are checking: Whether they handle pressure well and turn incidents into lasting improvements rather than blame.

What would you do

A vulnerability scan flags dozens of switches needing a firmware upgrade. How do you plan the remediation without disrupting the properties?

What they are checking: Whether they can balance security urgency with change windows and business impact across many sites.

In a high-volume, ticket-driven environment, how do you keep project work moving while the queue keeps growing?

What they are checking: Whether they can balance reactive tickets with longer engineering work without letting either fall apart.

A change you made caused an issue at several sites during business hours. What do you do in the first fifteen minutes?

What they are checking: Whether they roll back quickly, communicate clearly and own the mistake instead of trying to fix forward blindly.

About the work

Walk me through how you would troubleshoot a store location that lost connectivity on its SD-WAN link.

What they are checking: Whether they work through layers methodically in a multi-vendor environment rather than guessing at fixes.

How do you design wireless coverage for a large open space with heavy foot traffic, like a mall common area?

What they are checking: Whether they understand capacity planning, channel design and interference in high-density wireless.

Explain how you would connect on-premises networks to a cloud platform securely and reliably.

What they are checking: Whether they understand cloud networking basics like VPN or direct connect, routing and segmentation.

What do you monitor on a network, and how do you avoid drowning in alerts?

What they are checking: Whether they can build useful observability that surfaces real problems instead of noise.

How would you explain BGP or OSPF route selection to a junior teammate?

What they are checking: Whether they truly understand routing protocols well enough to teach them clearly and simply.
