Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
About your past
Tell me about a time you worked with children. What kind of activity did you lead and how did it go?
What they are checking: Whether they have real hands-on experience leading kids, not just babysitting, and can reflect on what worked.
How do you feel about the cleaning checklist and restocking after every class?
What they are checking: Whether they accept that sanitizing toys and resetting rooms is part of the job and not someone else's work.
What would you do
You have a room with toddlers and a few eight-year-olds at the same time. How do you keep everyone engaged and safe?
What they are checking: Whether they can plan for a wide age range in one space, since kids from infants to 11 are in the Kids Academy.
A child keeps hitting other kids during a game. What do you do in the moment?
What they are checking: Whether they use positive behavior management and protect the other children without shaming the child.
A child falls and bumps their head during an activity. Walk me through what you do from that moment until the parent picks up.
What they are checking: Whether they stay calm, give care, document the incident and tell the parent clearly, which the posting requires.
How would you explain to a parent at pickup that their child had a rough day without making them defensive?
What they are checking: Clear, kind communication with parents who are also paying members and will judge the program by that talk.
A parent asks about swim lessons or other junior programs. How would you talk with them about it?
What they are checking: Comfort promoting Kids and Aquatics programming in a natural way, since participation numbers matter to the club.
About the work
What does it mean to you to foster a child's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development through play?
What they are checking: Whether they see activities as purposeful learning, not just keeping kids busy until their parents return.
When you're transferring kids between the Academy and another class, what do you do to make sure no one gets lost?
What they are checking: Head counts and handoff habits, because losing track of a child during a transfer is the most serious risk here.
Keeping records of attendance, development and incidents can feel tedious. Why does it matter?
What they are checking: Whether they understand that records protect children, parents and the club when questions come up later.
