Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Walk me through an audit you ran on your own from planning to the final report.

What they are checking: Whether they can work independently, since the posting expects them to conduct audits without close supervision.

Tell me about a time you had to deliver a finding to someone who strongly disagreed with it.

What they are checking: Whether they listen, test new facts honestly and still hold a supported conclusion.

Tell me about a time you supervised or guided a less experienced auditor on an engagement.

What they are checking: Early supervisory ability, since the posting expects them to lead and motivate others on engagements.

What would you do

You are testing claims payments and notice a pattern of overrides by one processor. What do you do next?

What they are checking: Whether they gather facts carefully and escalate possible fraud properly instead of confronting people or jumping to conclusions.

A process owner keeps missing meetings and is slow to send evidence. How do you keep the audit on schedule?

What they are checking: Conflict resolution and negotiation skills the posting asks for, used without damaging the relationship.

You are juggling a regulatory request with a short deadline and an internal audit already in fieldwork. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Multitasking and judgment about which deadlines carry regulatory consequences.

About the work

This role covers both regulatory exams and internal audits. How is supporting a state insurance department exam different from running our own audit?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that regulators set the scope and timeline, and the job is accurate, organized responses rather than independent findings.

How have you used data analytics in an audit to test a full population instead of a sample?

What they are checking: Real hands-on skill with computer-aided audit tools and the judgment to know when full testing adds value.

How do you document a workpaper so another auditor could reach the same conclusion without talking to you?

What they are checking: Audit discipline around evidence and documentation, which regulators and reviewers will check.

What risks would you expect to look at in a managed care company's claims and enrollment processes?

What they are checking: Understanding of the specific risks in health insurance, such as payment accuracy, eligibility and member data privacy.
