Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through a time you built a multi-year product quality strategy that spanned from design all the way to aftermarket service. What did that roadmap actually look like year over year?

whether the candidate has really owned end-to-end lifecycle strategy versus just managing a single quality function

Tell me about a product that had a high field failure rate. How did you use the repair and failure data to trace it back to a design or process root cause?

depth of experience closing the loop between field data and design or manufacturing corrective action

Tell me about a time you had to qualify or requalify an external manufacturing or repair partner. What did the qualification program actually check for?

real experience running supplier qualification and certification programs, not just auditing on paper

Tell me about the biggest organizational change you've driven around quality culture, like introducing Lean or Six Sigma into a group that resisted it.

track record of actually changing how an organization works, not just running isolated improvement projects

Describe a role where you owned P&L or acted as a general manager for an operational area. What tradeoffs did you personally have to make between cost and quality?

whether they've truly carried budget and business ownership, since the posting explicitly wants a P&L or GM background

Tell me about a time your quality data or recommendation was unpopular with engineering leadership or the business unit. How did you push it through anyway?

backbone and political skill needed to mandate data discipline across groups that don't report to them

Technical

How would you set up a DOE to isolate the cause of a manufacturing yield problem you hadn't seen before?

actual hands-on fluency with design of experiments, not just familiarity with the term

Describe how you've calculated and driven down cost of poor quality in a past role. What specific levers moved the number?

whether they can translate quality work into a real financial number and defend the methodology

How do you decide which DFX principle, design for manufacturability, testability, reliability, gets priority when they conflict during a design gate review?

practical judgment applying DFX tradeoffs rather than reciting the acronym

Situational

Say you're in a design review and the engineering team wants to skip a DFMEA step to hit a schedule deadline for NPI. What do you do?

willingness to hold the line on disciplined engineering process even under schedule pressure, and how they influence without pure authority

One of your contract manufacturers is shipping product that passes their internal tests but is generating warranty claims in the field. How do you approach that partner?

ability to manage supplier accountability and root-cause a gap between supplier testing and real-world performance

You've been asked to present a quality strategy with financial implications to executive leadership who are mostly focused on revenue and delivery, not quality metrics. How do you frame it so it lands?

ability to translate technical quality work into business language executives will act on

If you inherited a QMS that was technically compliant but wasn't actually catching problems before they reached customers, what would you change first?

understanding that compliance and effective quality control are not the same thing, and where they'd start fixing it
