Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

What they are checking: Review facilitation rather than presentation

You'd contribute to design standards and libraries. What have you built that other designers used?

What they are checking: Contribution beyond their own work

The posting is titled Designer III but the requirements section describes what a senior designer needs, asking for an associate degree and five or more years in mechanical design and drafting. Where do you place yourself against that?

What they are checking: Honest self-placement against a posting that names two levels

What would you do

How do you work with manufacturing and supply chain on design for manufacturability and cost?

What they are checking: Partnership named in the posting, and whether they design for the factory

A senior engineer wants a change you think will cause a problem. How do you handle that?

What they are checking: Speaking up while following the guidance the posting says they'd work under

About the work

This role creates and maintains parts, assemblies and production drawings in SolidWorks. Walk me through a product you drew from concept to production release.

What they are checking: Full drawing package experience rather than modeling alone

How do you execute an engineering change order while accounting for what it affects downstream?

What they are checking: The named duty and whether they think past their own drawing

What's your command of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and how do you decide what to call out?

What they are checking: The stated drawing standard, which separates drafters from designers

How do you run interference, clearance and motion checks before a design review?

What they are checking: Checking discipline, a named responsibility

Bill of material accuracy is called out specifically. What goes wrong when a bill of material is wrong, and how do you prevent it?

What they are checking: Whether they connect data accuracy to real production consequences
