Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

This is manual work done under a Custodial Lead or Supervisor. Tell me about a job where you took direction from a lead and how you handled feedback on your work.

What they are checking: Whether they accept correction and follow instructions well, since the posting says work is done under guidance.

Tell me about a time you found a problem at an entrance, like a broken lock or a door that would not latch. What did you do?

What they are checking: Whether they report security issues to the right people, which the posting lists as a key duty.

Tell me about a time you had more work than time in a shift. How did you decide what to do first?

What they are checking: Whether they put health and safety tasks first and tell their lead what did not get done.

What does a job well done look like to you in custodial work?

What they are checking: Whether they hold themselves to a real standard of clean and safe, not just finishing the list.

What would you do

The schedule is Monday through Friday with hours that may vary and some weekend work. How does that fit your life?

What they are checking: Whether they are honestly available for the shifting hours and weekends, which affects whether they will stay.

The posting mentions miscellaneous activities as directed. How do you feel about being pulled off your usual area to help with something else, like moving furniture?

What they are checking: Whether they are flexible and willing to pitch in beyond their usual routine without complaint.

About the work

Walk me through how you would clean a classroom at the end of the day.

What they are checking: Whether they have an orderly routine covering trash, surfaces, floors and a final check rather than random tasks.

You will keep supply areas organized, document inventory and request supplies. How would you keep track of what is running low?

What they are checking: Whether they can count and record stock accurately so the team is not caught short.

How do you sort waste and recyclables? What would you do if you saw a recycling bin full of trash?

What they are checking: Whether they know recycling rules matter and would separate items properly instead of dumping everything together.

Stevens Point gets real winters. Tell me about clearing snow and ice from walkways. What tools and products have you used?

What they are checking: Whether they have handled shovels, blowers and ice melt safely and know where to focus first.
