Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
Behavioral
Tell me about a time a patient was anxious or in pain and you had to get them positioned and through a scan anyway.
bedside manner and ability to keep a scan moving without sacrificing patient comfort or safety
Tell me about a time you caught an error or inconsistency before an exam went to PACS for the radiologist to read.
attention to quality control and whether they take ownership of the final image before it leaves their hands
Tell me about a shift where the exam list piled up and you had to keep things moving without cutting corners.
how they perform under the fast-paced, time-constrained conditions described in the posting
Describe a time you disagreed with a radiologist or ordering provider about how a study should be done, and how you handled it.
communication skills and respect for clinical hierarchy while still advocating for the patient or the exam
Technical
Walk me through how you decide on technical factors like kVp and mA for a patient who's much larger or much smaller than average.
whether the candidate actually understands dose and image quality tradeoffs rather than just running a protocol on autopilot
How do you keep radiation dose as low as possible while still getting a diagnostic image, especially with pediatric or elderly patients?
real working knowledge of ALARA and age-specific protocol adjustment, not just textbook recall
Describe your experience with CT angiography and 3-D reconstruction, and what workstation you've used for it.
hands-on comfort with AWW workstation and advanced post-processing, since the job specifically calls this out
How do you manage the charge capture and reimbursement coding side of things in the HIS/RIS system, and what happens if you notice something's off in that data?
whether they understand the administrative half of the job, not just the clinical scanning part
What's your process for daily and periodic quality control checks on the CT scanner, and what would make you flag a scanner as out of tolerance?
depth of QC knowledge and willingness to stop and report rather than push through a borderline machine
Situational
A patient tells you they've had a mild reaction to contrast before, but the order calls for a contrast study. What do you do?
judgment around escalating to the radiologist and following contrast safety protocols rather than just proceeding or refusing on their own
You're the senior tech on shift and a newer technologist is unsure how to position a patient for a complex scan. How do you handle that in the moment, with patients still waiting?
ability to mentor and train under time pressure, which the job explicitly requires
A patient with dementia or a young child is combative or scared during setup. What's your approach to getting a usable scan safely?
experience across age groups and de-escalation skills required explicitly by the posting
