Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Tell me about a time you had to scan a patient who couldn't hold still or follow breathing instructions. What did you do?

how they adapt technique for real patients instead of textbook conditions, and their patience under pressure

Tell me about a pediatric or elderly patient who was anxious or confused during a scan. How did you get them through it safely?

ability to adjust communication and care approach across different age groups, which the posting calls out specifically

Tell me about a time you caught an image quality issue before it became a problem, whether that was your own scan or a colleague's.

quality-improvement mindset and willingness to flag issues, since the job includes assisting the lead with image quality activities

Tell me about a disagreement you had with a radiologist or ordering physician about how a scan should be done. How did you resolve it?

communication skills and ability to advocate for correct technique while staying collaborative

Technical

Walk me through how you position a patient and set your protocol for a routine chest CT versus a trauma abdomen and pelvis scan overnight.

whether the candidate actually knows CT workflow and can adapt protocols rather than just following a checklist

How do you decide on isocenter placement and use of immobilization or support devices to get optimum image quality without extra radiation exposure to the patient?

depth of hands-on CT technique knowledge, not just certification on paper

Describe your experience with HIS, RIS, and PACS systems. What do you do when the system goes down mid-shift and you still have patients waiting?

comfort with the actual software stack and calm problem-solving when tech fails during patient care

A patient needs to be moved onto the CT table and can't assist and weighs over 35 pounds beyond what you can lift alone. Walk me through what you do.

knowledge of safe patient handling policy and willingness to use equipment and ask for help rather than risk injury

Situational

It's 2 a.m., you're the only tech in CT, and a trauma patient comes in needing an immediate scan while another patient is already on the table for a scheduled exam. How do you handle that?

prioritization and independent judgment during solo overnight shifts with minimal backup

You're cross-training from x-ray into CT. What part of that transition do you expect to be hardest, and how are you planning to close that gap?

honest self-assessment for candidates coming from another modality, since the posting explicitly welcomes cross-training

You get called in for an on-call case with almost no notice. What's your process from the moment you get that call to when you're scanning the patient?

reliability and readiness for the on-call and callback demands built into this schedule

Radiation safety rules and your own workflow speed are sometimes in tension. How do you make sure you don't cut corners on protocol just to move faster?

commitment to safety standards under productivity pressure

This role runs 8 days on, 6 days off or similar stretches with no Wednesday shifts and third-shift hours. What makes you confident you can sustain that pace long term?

realistic fit with the demanding, irregular schedule rather than just saying yes to get the job
