Likely interview questions for this role
Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.
Behavioral
Tell me about a time you had to explain a CT procedure to a frightened or confused patient. What did you say and how did it go?
communication skill and bedside manner under real clinical conditions
Have you trained or mentored other technologists? What did that look like day to day?
whether they can genuinely fulfill the mentoring responsibility listed in the job, not just perform the technical work
Tell me about a shift where the CT suite was slammed and the schedule was falling apart. How did you keep things moving safely?
performance under time pressure in a fast-paced environment, which the posting explicitly flags
Describe a situation where you had to move or reposition a patient who couldn't help much, maybe someone heavy, in pain, or on a stretcher with lines and tubes.
physical capability and safe patient-handling technique given the lifting and moving requirements of the job
Technical
Walk me through how you choose technical factors for a CT scan on a patient whose body size or condition is outside the standard protocol.
whether the candidate truly understands independent selection and modification of technical factors rather than just following a preset protocol
Tell me about your experience with contrast injection. How do you screen a patient before injecting and what do you watch for during and after?
safety awareness around contrast administration and understanding of when to involve the radiologist
Describe your experience with 3-D reconstruction, CT angiography, and using an AWW workstation.
actual hands-on proficiency with the specific tools named in the posting, not just general CT experience
How do you approach radiation protection for a pediatric patient versus an elderly patient?
knowledge of age-specific dose considerations and ALARA principles across the patient population they'll actually see
How do you make sure charges, procedure files, and reimbursement codes get entered correctly in the HIS/RIS system, especially when things get busy?
attention to administrative accuracy and understanding that documentation errors have financial and compliance consequences
What's your experience level with CT scanning, and where are you in the process of becoming CT registered with ARRT?
whether they meet the hard credentialing requirements and timeline for CT registry within six months of hire
Situational
Since this is a per diem role, you may be dropped into a CT suite you don't work in every day. How do you get oriented quickly and make sure you're following that site's specific protocols?
adaptability and ability to function safely with minimal onboarding across different units
Walk me through how you'd handle an exam where the images don't look right on quality control and you're not sure if it's equipment or technique.
troubleshooting process and whether they escalate appropriately versus guessing
If you noticed an image sent to PACS wasn't fully verified or looked incomplete before the radiologist reviewed it, what would you do?
diligence and ownership over the last step before diagnosis, and willingness to catch and fix an error rather than let it pass
How do you handle being called in for a rotating or varied shift on short notice, and what would make you turn one down?
realistic fit with the per diem, flexible-shift nature of the position
