Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

Behavioral

Walk me through a procurement agreement you negotiated that had real risk in it, maybe with a strategic supplier. What was at stake and how did you get to a deal you could live with?

whether the candidate has genuinely handled complex, high-value supplier negotiations rather than only reviewing boilerplate paper

Tell me about a time you had to build or improve a contract playbook or template. What problem was it solving and how did you get buy-in from the business side to actually use it?

experience with template governance and process work, not just one-off deal execution

Describe a contract dispute you managed from the first sign of trouble through resolution. Did it settle, and what did you draft along the way?

real experience with dispute management and settlement drafting, called out explicitly in the job duties

Tell me about a time you had to manage outside counsel on a matter. How did you scope the work and make sure you were getting value for the spend?

in-house maturity around supervising external resources, which the posting lists as preferred experience

What's an example of a legal process or inefficiency you noticed and fixed, even if nobody asked you to?

proactive orientation toward process optimization the posting emphasizes beyond core transactional work

Give me an example of a time your recommendation on a deal wasn't what the business wanted to hear, and how you delivered it.

communication skill and backbone when legal advice conflicts with commercial pressure to close

Technical

You're reviewing a cloud computing agreement with a vendor that touches customer data and possibly AI features. What clauses are you scrutinizing hardest and why?

depth of substantive knowledge in tech, data privacy, and AI-related contract terms, which the posting specifically calls out

What's your process for negotiating an IP ownership or licensing clause when a vendor is developing custom software for us versus a straightforward off-the-shelf license?

whether the candidate can distinguish contract structures across different technology engagement types

How would you approach due diligence on a new supplier where there are geopolitical or regulatory red flags, say sanctions exposure or a country with export restrictions?

working knowledge of supply chain risk, sanctions, and regulatory due diligence specific to this team's mandate

Situational

Say a key manufacturing vendor wants to cap their liability at the value of one purchase order, but the component they supply is critical to a product line worth much more than that. How do you approach that negotiation?

practical risk-balancing instinct and ability to translate legal exposure into business terms

A business partner in Supply Chain wants to move fast on a deal, but you spot a compliance issue tied to export controls or supplier due diligence. How do you handle that conversation without becoming the person who just says no?

ability to be a pragmatic trusted advisor while still protecting the company on regulatory risk

How do you decide when a matter needs to go up to senior counsel versus when you can make the call yourself?

judgment about escalation and self-awareness of the limits of independent authority appropriate for this level

Marketing, sales, and product each want something slightly different out of one deal, and they're all pulling you in different directions during a live negotiation. How do you keep that moving toward a single position?

cross-functional stakeholder management under pressure, since the role sits across many internal groups
