Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

A lot of this job is pulling hoses and general labor, not just driving. How do you feel about that, and how do you keep your body holding up?

What they are checking: Whether they expect the physical side honestly and can do it day after day without getting hurt.

Tell me about a time you worked a field job with a crew. What did you do to keep everyone on the same page?

What they are checking: Whether they communicate well on a team job, since vac work often has several people around hoses and pressure.

Tell me about a time you had to work on your own with no supervisor nearby. How did you decide what to do when something went sideways?

What they are checking: Whether they make sound calls independently and know when to stop and phone for help instead of improvising.

How do you keep your CDL record clean, and what's on your MVR that we should know about?

What they are checking: Whether they are upfront about their driving history, since honesty here predicts honesty about incidents later.

What would you do

You show up at a job and the tank or pit isn't what the work order described. Maybe it's thicker or there's something in it you didn't expect. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they stop and check before pumping unknown material, instead of guessing and risking contamination or exposure.

It's late in the day, you're tired, and there's still one more off-load before you can head home. How do you keep from cutting corners?

What they are checking: Whether they keep safety habits when fatigue and the clock push them to rush through the last task.

About the work

This role runs vacuum trucks and semi-vac units hauling mostly non-hazardous sludge. What vacuum equipment have you run, and what does a normal job look like for you?

What they are checking: Whether they have real vac truck time or will need to learn the pumps, valves and hoses from scratch.

Walk me through how you set up, pull vacuum and off-load at a site, step by step.

What they are checking: Whether they know the sequence that prevents spills, blowback and damaged pumps, which shows how much supervision they need.

You'll sometimes haul hazardous material too. How does your process change when the load is hazardous instead of regular sludge?

What they are checking: Whether they shift into stricter paperwork, labeling and PPE habits without being reminded when the risk goes up.

How do you inspect a vac truck at the start of the day, and what would make you call it in instead of heading out?

What they are checking: Whether they catch hose wear, seal problems and tank issues early, before those failures happen at a customer site.
