Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

This role means deploying on short notice and working ten straight twelve-hour days. Tell me how you have handled a schedule like that before.

What they are checking: Whether they truly understand the physical and personal demands of CAT deployment and can sustain them.

Tell me about a time you had to deny part of a claim. How did you explain it?

What they are checking: Whether they can deliver a coverage decision clearly and respectfully, citing the policy.

When you are not deployed, you will help a claims office with workload. How do you adjust to a new team's way of doing things?

What they are checking: Whether they are flexible and easy to work with in offices that are not their home base.

How do you keep files current and accurate when you are handling a large caseload in the field with long days?

What they are checking: Whether they maintain documentation discipline under heavy volume, which affects settlements and audits.

What would you do

You arrive at a tornado-hit town and have dozens of new claims. How do you decide which policyholders to see first?

What they are checking: Whether they triage by safety and need, like uninhabitable homes, rather than by the order claims came in.

A policyholder just lost much of their home and is crying when you arrive. How do you start that visit?

What they are checking: Whether they lead with empathy while still gathering what they need and explaining next steps clearly.

You suspect a contractor is going door to door and inflating damage on claims in the area. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they recognize storm-chaser fraud patterns and involve the special investigations unit without accusing policyholders.

About the work

Walk me through how you inspect a roof after a hail storm and decide between repair and replacement.

What they are checking: Whether they know how to document hail damage and apply the policy and local repair standards.

What estimating software have you used, and how do you make sure your estimate holds up when a contractor disagrees?

What they are checking: Whether they write detailed, defensible estimates in tools like Xactimate and can reconcile with contractors.

How does handling a commercial property claim differ from a homeowner claim after a storm?

What they are checking: Whether they understand business income, multiple buildings and more complex coverage in commercial lines.

What safety steps do you take before going onto a damaged roof or into a damaged building?

What they are checking: Whether they protect themselves in hazardous field conditions rather than taking risks to move faster.
