Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Walk me through a capital project you led from justification to startup.

What they are checking: End-to-end ownership, including the business case, vendor selection, installation and handoff to operations.

Tell me about a project that went over budget or late. What happened and what did you learn?

What they are checking: Honesty about setbacks and whether they now plan contingency and manage scope more tightly.

How do you balance several capital projects alongside urgent breakdown support?

What they are checking: Time management and judgment about when to drop project work for a line-down emergency.

What would you do

A machine keeps going down for the same reason and maintenance keeps fixing it. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they dig into the true root cause and design it out rather than accepting repeat repairs.

How would you work with maintenance techs who are skeptical of an engineer's new PM schedule?

What they are checking: Respect for floor experience and the ability to win buy-in from the people who do the work.

About the work

How do you decide which equipment on a production floor gets a reliability program first?

What they are checking: Use of criticality ranking and downtime data rather than intuition to focus limited effort.

What reliability tools have you used, like FMEA, root cause analysis or vibration and thermal monitoring?

What they are checking: Practical depth with methods that predict and prevent failures instead of fixing them after.

How do you build a cost justification for a project that improves safety but saves little money?

What they are checking: Ability to argue for risk reduction honestly and understand that not every good project has a payback.

How do you make sure a new piece of equipment is safe before it runs on the floor?

What they are checking: Awareness of guarding, lockout points, risk assessment and commissioning checks before startup.

What maintenance metrics would you track to show reliability is improving?

What they are checking: Knowledge of MTBF, MTTR, uptime and PM compliance, and how to use them to drive decisions.
