Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a broker relationship in the Central Region that you built from scratch. What made it work?

What they are checking: Whether they can generate submission flow through relationships, since the role is the primary contact for brokers.

Tell me about a time you walked away from an account that the broker and maybe your own team wanted to write.

What they are checking: Underwriting discipline and the willingness to protect portfolio profitability over premium volume.

What would you do

A broker brings you a company with a recent restatement and a new CFO. How do you decide whether to quote and on what terms?

What they are checking: Ability to weigh red flags and still find a responsible way to write the risk, or decline clearly.

A client CFO asks you for guidance on governance practices that would improve their D&O terms. What do you tell them?

What they are checking: Whether they can serve as a real risk management resource, not just a pricing desk, as the posting expects.

The market softens and competitors start cutting rate. How do you grow your book without giving up adequacy?

What they are checking: Their read of market conditions and their ability to balance growth targets with sound underwriting.

About the work

Walk me through how you underwrite a mid-cap public company D&O renewal. What do you look at first?

What they are checking: Whether they have a structured approach to financials, governance and litigation risk rather than relying on broker narrative.

What securities litigation trends are shaping how you price and structure public D&O right now?

What they are checking: Whether they actually follow securities class action and event-driven litigation, which the posting names as required knowledge.

How do you think about attachment point and limits when you're offered an excess layer versus the primary on a large-cap tower?

What they are checking: Understanding of how risk and pricing change by layer, which drives tower strategy and portfolio results.

How do Fiduciary and Employment Practices Liability fit into your approach when they come with a D&O account?

What they are checking: Breadth across the management liability lines the posting lists, and how they cross-sell without diluting standards.

How do you watch your portfolio for emerging issues like SPAC exposure, AI disclosures or regulatory shifts?

What they are checking: Whether they track regulatory developments and connect them to specific accounts before claims arrive.
