Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time a regulatory change made you rethink how you were writing a class of business.

What they are checking: Whether they follow regulatory developments and actually adjust underwriting in response.

Tell me about the most complex financial institution account you wrote. What made it hard?

What they are checking: Depth of real experience with complex risks, which the posting says the ideal candidate has.

What would you do

A broker brings a fintech lender with fast growth and a consent order from a state regulator. How do you approach it?

What they are checking: Ability to evaluate emerging and messy risks with structured judgment rather than reflexively declining.

The role covers the Central Region and may open to the West Coast. How would you build broker relationships in a new territory?

What they are checking: Whether they have a practical plan for creating submission flow outside an established network.

How do you keep a renewal book profitable when a large account has a claim and wants flat pricing?

What they are checking: Negotiation and portfolio discipline when relationships and results pull in different directions.

About the work

Walk me through how you underwrite a regional bank's D&O and E&O package. Which financial metrics matter most to you?

What they are checking: Whether they can read bank financials like capital, asset quality and liquidity and tie them to management liability risk.

How does your approach change for an asset manager or broker-dealer compared with a depository bank?

What they are checking: Breadth across financial institution segments, each with different regulators and claim drivers.

Crime and Fidelity are in this portfolio. What do you look for in internal controls when you write a financial institution bond?

What they are checking: Understanding that controls like dual authorization and audit practices drive crime and fidelity losses.

How would you explain to a bank board what Fiduciary Liability covers and why it's separate from D&O?

What they are checking: Clarity about coverage distinctions and the ability to advise clients, which the role expects.

What would you look at to decide if your whole portfolio is priced adequately, not just individual accounts?

What they are checking: Portfolio-level thinking, since the manager owns growth and profitability across the book.
