Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you owned a product area that was mostly plumbing, like login or access, and still showed real business value from it.

What they are checking: Whether they can make invisible infrastructure work matter to leadership by tying it to adoption, support cost or renewals.

This is a senior individual contributor role. Tell me about a time you got engineering, UX and security aligned on a priority when none of them reported to you.

What they are checking: Whether they lead through clarity and trust, since this role has influence but no direct authority over partner teams.

Tell me about a roadmap you inherited that was full of commitments to customers. How did you sort out what to keep?

What they are checking: Whether they can reset priorities honestly while protecting trust with customer-facing teams who made promises.

How would you explain to product leadership where the core UpToDate experience should be in two years?

What they are checking: Whether they can form a point of view on strategy and communicate it simply to senior leaders.

What would you do

A large health system says its clinicians keep getting logged out on mobile, but engineering wants to spend the quarter on a new web feature. How do you decide?

What they are checking: How they weigh a loud enterprise customer against the roadmap, and whether they use data rather than volume to choose.

Security wants stronger authentication. Clinicians want fewer steps. How would you work through that tradeoff?

What they are checking: Whether they can hold both safety and usability in mind and find options rather than declaring one side the winner.

An implementation team tells you a new enterprise customer can't go live because their entitlements are set up wrong. What do you do in the first day?

What they are checking: Whether they can triage an operational fire calmly and also spot the product fix that keeps it from repeating.

About the work

Walk me through how a clinician gets from a hospital login to an UpToDate topic today, and where you think that path breaks down.

What they are checking: Whether they understand access as a real clinical workflow problem, where every extra click costs time at the bedside.

Enterprise customers use SSO, IP authentication, EHR launches and individual accounts. How would you think about simplifying identity and entitlement without breaking any of them?

What they are checking: Whether they can reason about identity systems and entitlements well enough to earn credibility with architects and security.

How would you approach accessibility for a product that millions of clinicians rely on, and how do you keep it from becoming a one-time audit?

What they are checking: Whether they treat accessibility as an ongoing product standard with owners and checks, not a compliance checkbox.

Which metrics would you put on a dashboard to know the core UpToDate access experience is getting better?

What they are checking: Whether they pick measures tied to outcomes, like time to first content and failed logins, rather than vanity numbers.
