Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you worked with a child or young adult whose behavior was hard to manage. What did you do in the moment?

What they are checking: Whether they stay calm and use support rather than force when a student is escalating.

Describe a time you had to model a behavior you wanted someone else to learn. What did that look like?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that staff behavior teaches as much as any lesson does.

Why do you want to work with students who have emotional, behavioral and developmental challenges?

What they are checking: Whether their motivation is steady enough to last through hard days in a therapeutic school setting.

How do you take care of yourself after a shift where a student was aggressive toward you?

What they are checking: Whether they can recover and come back the next day without carrying resentment toward the student.

What would you do

This job covers classroom hours during the week and program support on breaks and early release days. How do you shift your approach between a classroom and a residential or activity setting?

What they are checking: Whether they understand that structure and expectations change by setting, and that students feel those changes too.

A student refuses to leave the classroom for a scheduled activity and starts raising their voice. Walk me through what you would do.

What they are checking: Whether they think about safety, choices and de-escalation before they think about winning the moment.

Each student here has their own behavior plan. How would you make sure you are following the right plan for the right student on a busy day?

What they are checking: Whether they will read and follow individual plans instead of treating every student the same way.

You notice a coworker using a tone with a student that seems harsh and is not in line with the student's plan. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they will speak up or report when a student's dignity or safety is at stake.

About the work

How would you help a teenager practice a daily living skill like budgeting or personal hygiene without making them feel talked down to?

What they are checking: Whether they can teach life skills with respect, which matters a lot to older students with disabilities.

How would you document an incident so the next shift and the treatment team know exactly what happened?

What they are checking: Whether they write facts in clear, objective terms that others can act on, not opinions or blame.
