Likely interview questions for this role

Behavioral
Tell me about a time you had to hold someone on your team accountable for a performance or safety issue. What did you do and how did it turn out?
comfort with progressive discipline and follow-through rather than avoiding hard conversations
Describe a continuous improvement idea you pushed on the floor. What was the problem, what did you change, and how did you know it worked?
actual lean manufacturing experience versus buzzword familiarity
Tell me about someone you coached or developed who grew into a bigger role. What did you specifically do to help them get there?
genuine investment in developing people versus just supervising tasks
Tell me about a time you disagreed with a decision from your leadership. How did you handle it and what did you do afterward?
whether they raise concerns constructively and still execute once a decision is made
Describe a time you had to deliver tough feedback to someone who wasn't expecting it. How did they react and what happened next?
skill in direct, respectful communication and reading the other person's response
Technical
How do you communicate what happened on your shift to the next shift so nothing gets dropped?
whether they have a real habit or system for shift handoff, not just a vague answer
What production and performance data do you look at during a shift, and what makes you stop and dig deeper into a number?
whether they actually use data to manage rather than just report it after the fact
What does a clean, safe, well-organized work area actually look like to you on a manufacturing floor, and how do you keep it that way day to day?
real understanding of 5S and safety compliance versus reciting policy language
Situational
Walk me through how you'd run a shift where you're behind on the production schedule and short two people.
whether the candidate can prioritize, reallocate labor, and communicate trade-offs under pressure
Two operators on your line are in a disagreement that's slowing down the cell. What do you do in the moment?
conflict resolution skill and whether they act quickly instead of letting it fester
A new hire on your line isn't picking up the process the way you expected after training. How do you handle it?
patience and coaching technique versus jumping straight to discipline
How would you handle a parts shortage that's about to stop your line, when the fix depends on another department?
cross-department problem solving and ownership of outcomes beyond their own area
If you inherited a team with low morale and inconsistent output, what would your first thirty days look like?
ability to diagnose people and process problems and build a concrete plan rather than guessing
