Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you gave hard feedback to a peer you also work beside on shift.

What they are checking: Whether they can lead former peers fairly without avoiding conflict or damaging working relationships.

How do you support families of NICU babies who are scared and exhausted at 3 a.m.?

What they are checking: Whether they see family-centered care as part of nursing leadership, especially at night.

Tell me about a safety event you were involved in and what you did afterward.

What they are checking: Whether they report honestly and use events to fix systems rather than to blame people.

What would you do

This role is 60 percent night floor staffing and 40 percent leadership. How would you keep both halves from crowding each other out?

What they are checking: Whether they have a realistic plan for protecting leadership time while still being a strong bedside nurse.

You're the charge on nights in Neenah and a NICU baby starts desaturating while a pediatric patient on the same unit is declining. How do you manage it?

What they are checking: Whether they can prioritize, mobilize help and stay calm when two sick patients need attention at once.

A nurse calls in at 1900 and you're already tight. What are your options and how do you choose?

What they are checking: Whether they know staffing levers and make safe assignments rather than stretching the team too thin.

About the work

Walk me through your assessment of a premature infant with increasing apnea and bradycardia episodes.

What they are checking: Whether they have the NICU clinical depth to spot early signs of sepsis or other decline.

Fox Valley is a smaller site. When would you decide a child needs transfer to Milwaukee, and how do you make that happen?

What they are checking: Whether they know the limits of a community pediatric unit and act early on escalation and transport.

How do you keep night shift nurses connected to education, meetings and changes that mostly happen during the day?

What they are checking: Whether they can close the communication gap that night staff often feel.

What pediatric or neonatal certifications do you hold, like NRP or PALS, and when did you last use those skills in a real event?

What they are checking: Whether their resuscitation skills are current and tested, since nights in a small unit leave little backup.
