Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you improved inventory accuracy significantly. What was causing the errors?

What they are checking: Whether they find the process cause of inaccuracy, like uncontrolled issues or bad receiving, rather than just recounting.

Describe a time you led a team through a change in how they did their daily work.

What they are checking: Whether they can lead storeroom staff through new processes and keep them engaged rather than just issuing rules.

What would you do

You'd own stock accuracy and service level for the whole Argo plant storeroom. How would you measure where things stand in your first month?

What they are checking: Whether they start with cycle counts, fill rates and stockout data to set a baseline before changing anything.

A maintenance tech grabs parts from the storeroom after hours without logging them. How do you handle it?

What they are checking: Whether they fix the access process and partner with maintenance instead of just blaming the technicians.

Maintenance planners complain the storeroom never has kits ready for shutdowns. How would you fix that relationship?

What they are checking: Whether they see the storeroom as a service to maintenance and can build planning and kitting routines with them.

About the work

How do you balance cutting working capital in spare parts with making sure a critical part is there when a line goes down?

What they are checking: Whether they understand criticality-based stocking, since cutting the wrong spare can cost far more in downtime than it saves.

How do you set min and max levels for MRO parts that move slowly or unpredictably?

What they are checking: Whether they can use usage history, lead time and criticality instead of guesses or whatever the system defaulted to.

What would a multi-year improvement plan for working capital in the storeroom look like?

What they are checking: Whether they can think in phases, such as cleansing data, removing obsolete stock and tuning reorder points over time.

How do you handle obsolete or duplicate parts that have built up over decades in an older plant?

What they are checking: Whether they have a safe method for identifying and disposing of dead stock without removing something still needed.

How do you work with purchasing and vendors to cut lead times or set up consignment on high-use items?

What they are checking: Whether they know supply tools like consignment and blanket orders that reduce inventory without hurting availability.
