Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

As a Staff Physical Therapist II, you are a clinical resource for staff and students. Tell me about a time you mentored someone.

What they are checking: Whether they can teach and lead by example, which separates this level from a Therapist I.

Tell me about a time you made a change in how your department did something.

What they are checking: Whether they act as a role model who improves practice, not just someone who follows it.

How do you coordinate care with nursing, OT and case management for discharge planning?

What they are checking: Whether they work as part of a team to get patients to the right next setting.

Tell me about a time a patient made much less progress than you hoped. What did you learn?

What they are checking: Whether they reflect honestly on outcomes and adjust their practice.

How do you keep up with evidence-based practice and bring it to your team?

What they are checking: Whether they share new knowledge with peers rather than keeping it to themselves.

What would you do

A newer therapist asks you how to handle a complex patient they feel unsure about. How do you guide them?

What they are checking: Whether they coach in a way that builds the other person's skills instead of just taking over.

How do you supervise a student so they learn while patients still get safe care?

What they are checking: Whether they balance teaching with their responsibility for patient safety.

This role is listed as hybrid. How would you handle the parts of the job that are not hands-on?

What they are checking: Whether they can manage documentation and coordination well when not on site.

About the work

Walk me through how you would evaluate and plan care for a patient after a total knee replacement.

What they are checking: Whether they can build a clear, goal-driven plan for a very common case.

How do you decide when a patient needs a change in plan of care?

What they are checking: Whether they reassess based on data and goals rather than routine.
