Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a technology you took from an idea to a working prototype. What did you learn along the way?

What they are checking: Whether they can carry early, uncertain work far enough to prove or disprove it with real hardware.

How do you decide when to kill an advanced development project?

What they are checking: Whether they set clear criteria and accept negative results instead of chasing a favorite idea too long.

How do you hand off a proven concept to a product team so it actually gets built?

What they are checking: Whether they document and transfer knowledge well, since many advanced projects die at the handoff.

Tell me about a patent, paper or invention you contributed to.

What they are checking: Whether they have created original technical work and can explain its value plainly.

How do you keep advanced work tied to what customers will actually buy?

What they are checking: Whether they connect research to business needs instead of pursuing technology for its own sake.

What would you do

Our range includes engines, generators, power conversion and clean energy solutions. Which emerging technology would you want to explore first, and why?

What they are checking: Whether they think about where energy resilience is heading and can tie ideas to customer value.

Leadership asks for a result in three months that you think needs nine. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they negotiate scope honestly and find a smaller milestone instead of overpromising.

About the work

How do you plan experiments when you don't know what the right answer looks like yet?

What they are checking: Whether they design tests that reduce the biggest unknowns first, which keeps research on budget.

Walk me through how you would evaluate a new fuel or power source for a generator platform.

What they are checking: Whether they consider efficiency, emissions, durability, cost and supply together rather than one metric.

What modeling or simulation tools have you used to predict performance before building hardware?

What they are checking: Whether they can save time and money by using analysis to narrow options before prototyping.
