Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you led a root cause investigation on an equipment or process problem. What did you find and what changed?

What they are checking: Whether they dig past the quick fix and make sure the corrective action prevents a repeat.

Tell me about a time you trained or mentored a less experienced technician. How did you know they'd really learned it?

What they are checking: Whether they can teach and confirm skill rather than just show someone once.

Tell me about an improvement you suggested to engineering that was put in place.

What they are checking: Whether they contribute to continuous improvement rather than only keeping machines running.

What would you do

A laminator jams repeatedly at 9 pm and engineering won't be in until morning. How do you decide whether to keep running, fix it yourself, or escalate?

What they are checking: Whether they know the limits of their authority and protect product quality on an unsupported shift.

How do you pass information to the next shift so they don't walk into a surprise?

What they are checking: Whether their shift handoffs are clear enough that problems don't fall through the cracks.

An operator tells you a part looks off, but it passes the measurements. What do you do?

What they are checking: Whether they take operator observations seriously and investigate before product reaches a customer.

This job is 2 to 10 pm, with flexible coverage on other shifts as needed. How does that fit your life right now?

What they are checking: Whether they can reliably cover the shift and the occasional flex the posting calls out.

About the work

You'd be the most experienced technical resource on second shift. Walk me through how you'd troubleshoot a CNC machine that starts producing parts out of tolerance.

What they are checking: Whether they troubleshoot systematically from symptoms to cause instead of swapping parts at random.

What do you check on a press before a run to make sure it's safe and ready?

What they are checking: Whether their equipment checks are thorough and safety-first, since presses are high-risk machines.

How comfortable are you reading drawings, schematics, and work instructions, and how do you handle it when the instructions don't match what you see?

What they are checking: Whether they can work from documentation and flag gaps instead of improvising silently.
