Likely interview questions for this role

Written from this job description, not a generic list. Each one notes what the interviewer is really checking.

About your past

Tell me about a time you found a compliance gap in an immigration process and fixed it.

What they are checking: Whether they proactively look for risk, like I-9 or public access file gaps, rather than waiting for an audit.

Tell me about working with a Global Mobility team on an international move. Where did the handoffs get tricky?

What they are checking: Whether they understand the interdependencies between immigration and relocation and manage them actively.

What would you do

A hiring manager wants a candidate on an F-1 OPT to start in two weeks and assumes there's no risk. How do you walk them through it?

What they are checking: Whether they can explain visa timelines and risks clearly to non-experts without overpromising or alarming them.

A foreign national employee is anxious because their extension is delayed and they have a family trip planned. How do you handle that call?

What they are checking: Whether they can give warm, honest support while being careful not to give legal advice they aren't qualified to give.

Talent Acquisition keeps making offers without flagging sponsorship needs early. What would you do about it?

What they are checking: Whether they fix upstream process problems through partnership instead of absorbing the fallout case by case.

If you took over a program with messy records and inconsistent processes, what would you do in your first ninety days?

What they are checking: Whether they can step into true process ownership and bring order without disrupting live cases.

About the work

Walk me through how you track deadlines across a large caseload of H-1B, L-1, and green card matters so nothing expires.

What they are checking: Whether they have a reliable system, since a missed expiry can put an employee out of status.

How do you split responsibilities with outside immigration counsel so cases move quickly and nothing falls between you?

What they are checking: Whether they can own the process while respecting what only attorneys should decide.

An employee on an H-1B is moving to a new role and a new city. What do you need to check before that change happens?

What they are checking: Whether they know that job and location changes can trigger amendments, and that they must catch it first.

How would you set up regular updates to leadership about the immigration program? What would you include?

What they are checking: Whether they can turn case data into a useful program view of volume, risk and cost for leaders.

How do you stay current on immigration rule changes, and how did a recent change affect your work?

What they are checking: Whether they actively follow policy shifts that change case strategy and employee advice.
